Review
Be it directed by Mallik Ram and written by its magnetic star Siddhu Jonnalagadda, Tillu Square, a follow-up to the cult hit DJ Tillu (2022), as well as elevates the franchise to new levels of comedy. Although the follow-up preserves the irreverence and Hyderabadi taste of the first one, it tells the story in a more polished way, the pictures are sharper, and the storyline is more aggressive.

Once again, Siddhu is the heart to the movie. His act, as Tillu, a loud-mouthed and talkative, yet somehow likeable DJ, is keener and funnier, and more heart-rending this time. Once again, his delivery and timing are impeccable and that is why he is becoming one of the more bankable writer-actors in the Telugu cinema. It is a continuation of the first one, however as opposed to repeating the same beats, it presents the misfortunes of Tillu with a fresh twist of creativity.
Anupama Parameswaran, who plays the roles of a homemaker girl best of all, is surprised as Lilly in a shocking performance. Her relationship with Siddhu reads like a work of fireworks on the sky, but her character development does not have enough layers. The short-time appearance of Neha Shetty as Radhika is more nostalgic and more connective tissue among the die-hard fans.

And her technical staff ought to be applauded. The styling of the movie with youth and energy is held in the air by the colorful cinematography of Sai Prakash Ummadisingu, the crackerjack editing of Navin Nooli and the pounding sound track by Ram Miriyala, Achu Rajamani and Bheems Ceciroleo. The screenplay is also full of hilarious jokes and self-aware jokes on DJ Tillu.
There are drawbacks in the movie, however. Some might find the plot farfetched and the fact that the movie objectifies women although it does not do so as much as the original version might be an eyebrow raiser. Nevertheless it provides what it promises two hours of high octane, irreverent fun.
Tillu Square is a sequel intelligently wrapped in the right ingredients that a mass audience demands. One to look at in case you like light, dialogue-based comedies.
Cast
There is vigorous acting by the cast in Tillu Square, which is matched to the comic and dramatic tunes of the movie. Siddhu Jonnalagadda reappearing as Bala Gangadhar Tilak a.k.a. Tillu, repeats with again with his naughty comic timing, Hyderabadi slang and that nonchalant royal screen performance. Siddhu, the co-writer also balances comedy with pathos dynamically and maturing a character that still retains the innocent appeal that had earned him employment in DJ Tillu. His performance provides a solid foundation to the movie bearing much of the narrative burden.
Making no pretentious leading-lady fare, Anupama Parameswaran has an incredible confidence and multi-dimensional depth in her role of Lily. However, Siddhu can only shine when he is around her and the glamorous personas of the geet singers are among the USP of the movie. She also adds to the narrative, style and emotional interest, especially when her character, who was initially a love interest, transforms into a woman-with-a-secret-agenda.
Tillu has a very volatile character, but Muralidhar Goud, the father of Tillu, is a very grounded, humorous character who provides contrast to Siddhu. With his small but effective portrayal of mafia don, Murali Sharma adds some sense of menace to the otherwise light-hearted story.

Among the finest cameos was that of Neha Shetty, who recreated her portrayal of Radhika; her arrival in the film is reminiscent of the nostalgia that the original film has. The backing actors like Prince Cecil and C.V.L. Narasimha Rao are always good performers, and this adds to the dramatic effect of the movie.
Critical Reviews
Critics gave positive reviews of the Tillu Square movie. The Times of India critic Paul Nicodemus reviewed the movie as 3.5 stars out of 5 stars and termed Tillu Square as fun and entertaining follow-up of DJ Tillu, wherein Siddhu Jonnalagadda retained his charm, comic timing and confidence. They said that there is also a similar pattern to the story, but newer twists and a glamorous role of Anupama Parameswaran made things new. The villain himself was the weakest thing, but in the humour, the writing, and the visuals, it furnished a sufficient pleasurable spectacle to most.
BVS Prakash, of Deccan Chronicle, gave the film two out of five stars and stated the film is good because it portrays Siddhu Jonnalagadda firing dynamically in comic role and Anupama Parameswaran playing a challenging role and he wrote is lighting up the screen with her chemistry. They find the film wanting, however, due to its absurd storyline and excessive recourse to fan service and borrowed tropes of DJ Tillu. The sequel can not make the story worth all the hype by even the charisma of Siddhu and the surprise twist that Anupama brings.
Raghu Bandi of The Indian Express criticized the film with three stars out of five stars terming the film as a laugh riot and one that offers good entertainment value especially to those who were fond of DJ Tillu. Siddhu Jonnalagadda and his energetic play as Hyderabadi together with the pithy one-liners were complimented and the camera work termed him as the backbone of the movie. We can be impressed by Anupama as a very audacious character in the beginning, however, this does not last long. The screenplay and music were also recognized and acclaimed, as well as the imagery and it was billed as the best summer movie among the youth.
Audience Reviews
The audience rated the movie decently as only 3.4k people rated this movie 6.6 stars out of 5 stars on IMDb, which is a decent rating of the movie by the audiences. With the reviews read, Tillu Square is a decent dose of comedy, a throwback platform to the original but not without flaws. Most of the accolades were awarded to the performance of Siddhu Jonnalagadda as DJ Tillu and was mentioned as the backbone of the film.
He received critical tropical reviews on his Telangana English, humorous timing and quintessential screen presence. The glam-heavy role played by Anupama Parameswaran was met with mixed feelings, some of them liked her radical change of appearance, others believed that she was not acting with balance especially in the emotional situations.

The comedy, dynamism, and well-known tunes of DJ Tillu were well-enjoyed during the first half. It involved the audience and was amusing and many have said that the romantic and comedy scenes were effective. The music and background score of the film, particularly by Shreyas, Ram Miriyala and Vijay Bulganin also received positive reviews.
However, critics were split on the second half, which, according to users, slowed with boring filler scenes and clichéd twists of the story. Other critics observed that the jokes sometimes bordered on crass or even misogynistic, and some of the characters such as Radhika, played by Neha Shetty, were not well utilized. The climax was convenient and story derivative to others.
In that regard, Tillu Square is a frothy comedian that plays with nostalgia and the charm of Siddhu, and not much so when it tries to expand the formula of its predecessor.
Songs
Tillu Square sports a fast but spirited soundtrack that is a combination of fun, romance and quirk, the soundtrack fits in the movie perfectly well.
The Album starts with a foot-tapping number, “Ticket Eh Konakunda” which was written by Kasarla Shyam and was sung by Ram Miriyala. The playful lyrics and the jaunty rhythm of the song soon turned it into a fan favorite, and within the period after its release the song received millions of views.
Then, “Radhika” is composed, and sung by the same duo, Kasarla Shyam, Ram Miriyala. It provides a light-hearted, musical feeling sprinkled with mischief that reflects the young-spirited playfulness of the movie, and gives the song a shot of romance.

The final one, “Oh My Lily,” takes a slight detachment on the musical road. The piece is composed by Achu Rajamani, lyrics by Siddhu Jonnalagadda and Sreerama Chandra is the singer. It is a funky, modern day groove with a bit of quirkiness that completes the album on a high note.
Overall, the three songs take up a little more than 12 minutes to deliver a brief, fun musical offering with the youthful power and swagger of Tillu Square.
